Lucknow, Aug 23 (UNI) Until the Supreme Court on Friday ordered sterlization of all stray dogs, in the country’s largest state of Uttar Pradesh, 28,43,744 people have been victims of dog bites between January and July this year.
Out of these, stray dogs have made 22,50,218 people their victims, while 1,51,627 people have been victims of pet dog bites.
If we look at the statistics of animal bites in UP from January to July, it is revealed that 33,83,712 people have been victims of animal bites. These include cases of bites from street dogs to pet dogs, cats, monkeys, jackals, foxes, horses.
According to Dr Pankaj Saxena of the state Directorate General of Health, 1,51,627 people have been bitten by cats. Similarly, 3,40,584 people have been bitten by monkeys while 47,757 people have been affected by jackal, fox and horse bites. Combining all these figures, a total of 33,83,712 people have been affected by bites.
According to Dr Saxena, only two people have been reported dead due to rabies between January and July. He said that the facility of giving rabies injections to the affected people is available in all the big hospitals including CHCs.
DG Health Dr R P Singh Suman said that the facility of rabies injections is not available only in women hospitals because people generally do not go there.
