New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi
here this evening and handed over a message and invitation from President Xi Jinping for the SCO
Summit being held in Tianjin, an official spokesman said.
The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity on the border and reiterated India’s commitment to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question.
He also welcomed the steady and positive progress in bilateral India-China ties since his meeting with President Xi in Kazan last year, guided by mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity, including the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra.
The Prime Minister thanked President Xi for the invitation to the SCO Summit and conveyed his acceptance.
He expressed support for China’s Presidency of the SCO Summit and said he looked forward to meeting President Xi in Tianjin.
The Prime Minister underlined that stable, predictable, and constructive ties between India and China will contribute significantly to regional and global peace and prosperity.
The Chinese Foreign Minister shared his positive assessment of his bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar yesterday and 24th Meeting of the Special Representatives (SRs) on boundary question which he co-chaired with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval earlier today.
The Chinese Foreign Minister who arrived here yesterday on a three-day official visit, had discussions with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval today on border issues. He had held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar yesterday immediately after his arrival from Beijing.
Mr Wang Yi is flying to Pakistan tomorrow on a three-day visit to participate in the Sixth round of the China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
