- On adverse effects of medical devices
Bhopal: The Department of Pharmacology at AIIMS Bhopal, in collaboration with the Department of Community and Family Medicine, organized an awareness campaign for rural communities on possible adverse events related to medical devices. The program was held recently at the Primary School in Nandora and in Tekri village of Obaidullahganj Block, Raisen. This awareness campaign was conducted under the Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI). AIIMS Bhopal functions as a Medical Devices Adverse Event Reporting Monitoring Centre (MDMCs) and also as a Regional Training Centre (RTC-M) for MP and Chhattisgarh. The aim of this campaign was to inform rural citizens about the importance of identifying and reporting adverse events associated with medical devices such as stents, pacemakers, implants, and others.
Through simple discussions and interactions, villagers were told why it is important to recognize any difficulty or unusual problem after using a medical device and inform doctors in time. Such knowledge not only ensures patient safety but also helps in timely treatment. Organized with the support of the Primary Schools of Nandora and Tekri, the program is an example of how important it is to take health awareness directly to villages.
