Bhopal: A strong weather system is set to intensify over Madhya Pradesh starting August 15, promising a new spell of heavy rainfall across the state. Even before this system fully activates, parts of the state are already experiencing significant downpours, leading the Meteorological Department to issue an orange alert for several key districts.
On Thursday, the districts of Betul, Chhindwara, and Pandhurna are on high alert, with forecasts predicting extremely heavy rainfall. The orange alert for these areas signals the potential for over three inches of rain within a 24-hour period, accompanied by strong winds. Additionally, the weather department has issued a general warning for other districts, including Sehore, Harda, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Anuppur, Balaghat, and Dindori, where moderate to heavy showers are expected.
According to meteorologists, the current rainfall is a result of a trough and a cyclonic circulation system. However, the stronger system is expected to form over the North-Western Bay of Bengal and become more defined in the next 24 hours. This development will usher in a widespread and intense period of rain across the entire state. Authorities are preparing to issue further alerts and advisories to the districts most likely to be affected by the torrential downpours. The consistent rainfall is a welcome sign for agricultural regions, but the risk of localized flooding remains a concern.
