Delhi Police conducts major anti-drug operation ahead of Independence Day

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Delhi Police have carried out a large-scale crackdown on narcotics and organized crime under “Operation Kavach 9.0,” conducting raids at 794 locations across 15 districts.

The 24-hour operation, which began on August 9 and concluded on August 10, resulted in 92 arrests in 87 drug-related cases. Authorities seized 307 grams of heroin, 33.165 kg of ganja, 610 grams of charas, 22.25 grams of MDMA, 2.26 grams of LSD, and Rs 12.17 lakh in cash.

In addition, 275 excise cases were registered, leading to 279 arrests and the seizure of 50,060 quarters of illicit liquor and 73 beer bottles. Police also arrested 65 individuals under the Arms Act, recovering firearms, ammunition, and knives. Gambling raids yielded 83 arrests and Rs 1.19 lakh in cash.

Under preventive measures, 1,858 individuals were taken into custody, while 12,834 were detained under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. The operation also targeted auto theft, with nine offenders arrested and 14 stolen vehicles recovered.

Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastava stated, “Operation Kavach is aimed at dismantling drug supply networks and protecting youth from addiction. We urge families, educators, and civil society to help reduce demand by raising awareness.”

Notable seizures included 301 grams of heroin recovered from a suspect in Nand Nagari and 6 kg of ganja confiscated in Sangam Vihar. In Malviya Nagar, 500 grams of charas were seized, while a vehicle inspection near Talkatora Stadium led to the discovery of cocaine, LSD, and other drugs.

The operation was supervised by senior officers, including Joint Commissioner Surender Singh and Additional Commissioner Mangesh Kashyap. Delhi Police emphasized that the crackdown aligns with the central government’s “zero tolerance” policy on narcotics.
