Psychologist Vini Jhariya interacts with girl students

  • Tells why mental health care is one of fastest growing career fields

Bhopal: “Ma’am, psychology lene se doctor ban sakte hain kya?” Clinical and child psychologist Dr. Vini Jhariya said this was one of the most common questions students asked her when she visited schools to deliver sessions on careers in mental health care. She said this at a session in Government Girls School Nehru Nagar,Indore

Dr Vini Said , Today’s students are curious and open-minded—but lack accurate information about this emerging field.

What the Data Says

According to WHO (World Health Organization), 1 in 7 adolescents globally experience mental health conditions. A 2021 Indian report by UNICEF states that 56% of youth feel that mental health is a big concern, but only 41% know where to seek help. India has fewer than 1 psychologist per 100,000 people, while the WHO recommendation is at least 3 per 100,000. This means huge demand and not enough professionals.

A field where you heal lives

Vini told students: This is a field where you don’t just earn—you heal, empower, and change lives. I’ve worked with children with Autism and ADHD who couldn’t speak or sit for 5 minutes… today, they’re attending school, talking, writing, even performing on stage!

She said mental Health Care isn’t just a job—it’s service, science, and soul all in one. India needs more mental health warriors. Will you be one, she asked.
