Bhopal mandates 24-hour CCTV recording at all Petrol Pumps

In a new directive aimed at improving road safety and compliance, the Bhopal district administration has made it mandatory for all petrol pumps to retain 24 hours of CCTV footage. This measure comes in the wake of a week-long ban on selling fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets.

Despite the initial ban, District Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh noted that some petrol pump operators and staff were not strictly following the rule. As a result, district administration teams have been conducting spot checks and reviewing CCTV footage to enforce the directive.

While most petrol pumps already maintain recordings as per petroleum company guidelines, they are now also required to adhere to the district administration’s specific instructions. According to District Supply Officer Chandrabhan Singh Jadoun, teams from the Food Department are conducting surprise inspections based on complaints. So far, action has been taken against five petrol pumps in Bhopal: four for violating the helmet rule and one for dispensing an excessive amount of fuel.
