Woman dies after hot oil attack

  • Family accuses police of negligence

Bhopal: A 35-year-old woman succumbed to severe burn injuries four days after being attacked with hot oil by three men in Bhopal’s Anna Nagar locality, according to police reports on Thursday. The incident occurred on the night of August 3, 2025, and the victim, Kanti Prajapati, passed away during treatment at Hamidia Hospital.

The attack reportedly stemmed from an ongoing dispute over alleged encroachment near the family’s tea-and-snacks stall. Kanti’s husband, Mukesh Prajapati, said that two of the attackers, Kamlesh Prajapati and his nephew, confronted their son over the matter. When Kanti intervened to protect her son, the assailants attacked her and poured boiling oil over her.

Mukesh alleged that after the incident, he contacted the First Response Vehicle (FRV) team from Govindpura Police Station. Although the police initially agreed to transport Kanti to the hospital, they reportedly abandoned her midway, claiming it was not their responsibility. A passerby eventually helped transport her to JP Hospital, from where she was referred to Hamidia Hospital, where she later died.

The police have arrested two suspects and registered a murder case, but Mukesh claims that he and his sons are facing attempt-to-murder charges based on a counter FIR from the accused.
