Centre of Happiness at AIIMS Bhopal promoting holistic well-being

Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal is dedicated to fostering holistic well-being through innovative initiatives. A notable advancement is the establishment of the Centre of Happiness, inaugurated on August 4, 2023. Since its launch, the Centre has hosted numerous impactful sessions focused on the Science of Happiness, catering to students, faculty, patients with chronic illnesses, and their caregivers.

The Centre commenced its activities with an introductory session for the MBBS batch of August 2023, emphasizing the significance of happiness in both personal and professional realms. A unique event, “Have the Courage to be Happy – The Theatre of the Oppressed,” allowed students to explore emotional and interpersonal issues through participatory theatre, promoting self-reflection and personal growth.

In its outreach endeavors, the Centre organized special happiness sessions for children battling cancer and their caregivers, as well as for breast cancer survivors, providing emotional support during challenging times. Furthermore, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled “Happiness: The Forgotten Aspect and the Science of Happiness” featured a thought-provoking address by Dr. Satinder Singh Rekhi, emphasizing the role of emotional intelligence in enhancing overall well-being.

AIIMS Bhopal ED Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh highlighted the initiative’s importance, stating that a scientific understanding of happiness equips healthcare professionals with essential tools to cultivate resilience and optimism in their demanding roles. The Centre aims to continue offering educational and psychological enrichment sessions for all members of the healthcare community.
