- Celebrating traditional arts
Bhopal: The “Sambhavna” activity, dedicated to the celebration of dance, singing, and play, took place at the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum on August 3. This vibrant event featured two traditional performances: the Dhimariai dance, presented by Parmanand Kewat and his companions from Vidisha, and the Duldulghodi dance, showcased by Rajmani Tiwari and his ensemble from Rewa.
The Dhimariai dance is a cultural expression of the Dhimar caste from Bundelkhand. During this performance, the main dancers engage the audience with traditional songs while skillfully playing the Rekdi instrument. Accompanying singers and musicians enhance the experience, creating a rich auditory tapestry that showcases the region’s heritage.
In contrast, the Duldulghodi dance from Baghelkhand is characterized by its festive spirit, often performed during auspicious occasions such as weddings. In this lively dance, an artist dons a wooden mare costume, leading the procession and captivating onlookers with entertaining movements. The performance is accompanied by folk songs and traditional instruments, including the harmonium, cymbals, manjira, dhapla, and dholak, which contribute to its unique charm.
The Sambhavna activity, held every Sunday at 2 PM in the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum complex, not only highlights the diverse artistic traditions of five local areas and seven major tribes of Madhya Pradesh but also provides the public with an opportunity to explore and appreciate the art forms from other states across India.
