Morena: In a bizarre turn of events, a Class 11 student from Morena, identified as Bhupendra Sharma, orchestrated his own kidnapping to extort Rs 30 lakh from his family. The plan, executed with the help of two strangers he encountered in Gwalior, involved a series of calculated moves.
Bhupendra, who resides in the Ambah police station area, was reported missing by his family on July 28 after they could not locate him. In their desperation, they filed a missing person report, prompting a swift response from local authorities. The day after the report was filed, Bhupendra’s sister received a chilling Instagram message demanding a ransom for his release.
Taking the threat seriously, the police launched an extensive search operation, forming multiple teams to locate the missing student. Their investigation included reviewing CCTV footage from various locations, including railway stations and bus stands. The breakthrough came when they spotted Bhupendra alone at Gwalior railway station, where he had traveled by himself.

While at the station, Bhupendra caught the attention of two local youths, Bitta and Rahul, who approached him after noticing his distressed demeanor. During their conversation, Bhupendra concocted the idea of staging a kidnapping, persuading Bitta and Rahul to assist him in executing the scheme. The trio then purchased medical supplies, including bandages and a towel, to create a convincing scene. They found a secluded spot near Gwalior Fort, where they tied a bandage around Bhupendra’s head and bound his hands with the towel, capturing a photo that would later be used to threaten his family.
The ransom demand was sent from a house in Bahodapur, where Bitta and Rahul contacted Bhupendra’s sister via Instagram. However, the police’s diligent investigation quickly unraveled the plot. Morena Superintendent of Police, Samir Saurabh, confirmed that the case was treated with utmost seriousness, leading to the eventual recovery of Bhupendra and the arrest of his accomplices. As a result, Bhupendra will now face charges for his role in the elaborate hoax.
