New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) In a major step towards improving the health and wellbeing of jawans posted in difficult high-altitude terrains, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) today signed an agreement with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT).
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed here in presence of Rajesh S Gokhale, Secretary, DBT, Rahul Rasgotra, Director General, ITBP and other senior officials, an official statement said.
This collaboration aims to use modern biotechnology to solve the unique health and environmental challenges faced by ITBP personnel serving in some of the world’s toughest and coldest border areas.
Key areas of focus include better healthcare for jawans that include tackling problems like high-altitude sickness, low oxygen (hypoxia) and extreme cold conditions.
The other areas include advanced medical support such as bringing diagnostic tools and telemedicine to remote border posts; research into improved diets, stress relief methods and genetic studies for better adaptation to harsh climates.
Through this partnership, both organisations will work together on studies to understand how high altitudes affect the body and mind, development of special nutrition packs and emergency medical kits and cold-weather health gear.
This partnership marks a big leap towards ensuring that our brave jawans get the best possible support while guarding the nation’s borders under the most challenging conditions.
