Meta appoints Shengjia Zhao as Chief Scientist at its superintelligence lab

New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) Meta announced the appointment of Shengjia Zhao (Co-creator of ChatGPT ) as the Chief Scientist of its Meta Superintelligence Lab (MSL).

CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed this information in a thread post on Friday. This move is viewed as a significant step towards leveraging AI in Meta’s organisational operations.

Shengjia Zhao is a renowned AI researcher with a bachelor’s from Tsinghua University and a PhD in computer science from Stanford University. Zhao spearheaded several key initiatives at OpenAI, including the co-creation of ChatGPT, GPT-4, and GPT-4.1, and some other mini models.

Zuckerberg posted on the thread, “ I’m excited to share that now Shengjia Zhao will be the Chief Scientist at Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). In this role, he will set the research agenda and scientific direction under the guidance of Alexandr Wang. Zhao’s work is the “new paradigm shift” in the realm of AI. ” Zuckerberg added.

Meta has recently launched the Superintelligence Lab with the motive to consolidate the work on its Llama models. These models are a family of open-source large language models developed by Meta AI.

After the arrival of Shengjia Zhao at MSL (Meta Superintelligence Lab), Meta now has two Chief AI Scientists, including Yann LeCun (Leader of Meta’s FAIR Lab). Meta FAIR (Fundamental AI Research) lab is a research division with a focus on advancing the state of the art in artificial intelligence with the help of open research and collaboration.
