Bhopal: Under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin Phase-2, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation is organizing Swachh Survekshan Gramin 2025 to assess and rank all states, union territories, and districts based on qualitative cleanliness standards.
District Panchayat CEO Ila Tiwari informed that in 2021, Bhopal rural secured the top position in the West Zone (Central India). This year too, efforts are underway to retain the top spot. Various components of the survey are being addressed—citizen feedback through mobile applications, direct verification of cleanliness standards, and ODF status at homes and public places.
Key facilities such as Plastic Waste Management Unit (MRF Centre), Gobardhan Plant, Sewage Water Management Plant, and Sanitation Green Leaf Rating Sites have been developed in selected gram panchayats.
471 villages declared ODF Plus Model
A total of 471 villages have been declared ODF Plus Model. For greywater management, 1.54 lakh meters of covered pipelines and filters have been constructed, along with soak pits, lease pits, and Waste Stabilization Ponds.
Solid waste is managed through door-to-door collection using battery-operated vehicles. Monitoring is done via a Smart Command Control Room. The state’s first rural MRF centre in Itkhedi, run by self-help group women, also supplies road-building materials to MRRDA.
This initiative symbolizes community-driven sanitation, aiming to bring Bhopal rural district to the top of the national rankings once again.
