Madhya Pradesh grapples with alarming disappearances

  • Congress blasts BJP on women’s safety crisis

Bhopal, MP – Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Jitu Patwari has launched a scathing attack on the state government, citing deeply troubling figures regarding the safety of women and girls. Drawing on recently released government data, Patwari revealed a staggering 31,801 women and girls have gone missing from the state in the past four years, an average of over 24 disappearances daily. This alarming trend, he asserts, points to a severe breakdown in law and order under the current BJP rule.

Patwari minces no words, stating, “When our daughters are disappearing from their own homes and the government stands by, it reflects a moral, social, and administrative failure.”

The grim statistics from 2021 to 2024 paint a dire picture:

* Total missing women: 28,857

* Total missing minor girls: 2,944

Furthermore, the number of individuals who remain untraced continues to rise, with many cases reportedly hampered by incomplete police investigations or a complete lack of FIRs.

BJP’s “Beton Bachao” slogan a mere gimmick?

Patwari contends that the BJP government’s much-touted “Beti Bachao” (Save Daughters) slogan has become nothing more than empty rhetoric. He highlights a critical lack of effective policies and concrete action to combat rising crimes against women. The Congress leader also points to a lax attitude within the police administration, with most missing persons cases yielding no leads.

Alarmingly, human trafficking, child trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault cases are reportedly on the rise. Madhya Pradesh also holds the dubious distinction of having the highest number of registered crimes against women nationwide.

Congress vows action

The Congress party has issued a stern warning: if the BJP government fails to uphold its responsibility for women’s safety and justice, the Congress will take to the streets, stand with affected families, and escalate the issue from the state assembly to Parliament.

“These aren’t just numbers – every missing daughter represents a shattered dream of a family,” Patwari emphasized. He concluded by urging the public to demand answers from the BJP and push for change to make Madhya Pradesh a crime-free, fear-free, and women-respecting state, assuring that the Congress party stands firmly with them in this fight.
