- BMHRC unveils state-of-the-art Cryostat Machine
Bhopal: In a significant advancement for patient care, the Bhopal Memorial Hospital & Research Centre (BMHRC) has inaugurated a cutting-edge cryostat machine, a vital tool for real-time decision-making during complex cancer surgeries. Dr. Manisha Srivastava, In-Charge Director of BMHRC, officially unveiled the technology, which promises to revolutionize surgical precision and patient outcomes.
How does the cryostat machine revolutionize surgery?
This sophisticated machine allows for the immediate analysis of tissue samples extracted during an operation. Dr. Honey Gulwani, Head of BMHRC’s Pathology Department, explained that it rapidly freezes tissue, creating microscopic slides for instant examination – a process known as “frozen section.” Crucially, results are available in mere minutes, a stark contrast to the hours or days required for traditional biopsies.
Dr. Sonvir Gautam, Assistant Professor in BMHRC’s Oncology Department, highlighted the cryostat’s immense value in cancer treatment. For instance, if a surgeon needs to confirm malignancy or ensure complete tumor removal mid-procedure, the machine provides immediate answers. This eliminates the need for subsequent surgeries, saving patients from additional pain, cost, and prolonged treatment.
Precision and efficiency: The cryostat’s impact on Cancer Surgery
“The cryostat machine is a significant step in BMHRC’s commitment to modern, patient-centric healthcare,” stated Dr. Srivastava. “It will foster better collaboration between surgeons and pathologists, leading to more accurate and timely treatment.”
With this acquisition, BMHRC joins an elite group of institutions equipped for intraoperative cancer diagnosis, particularly benefiting neuro, breast, head and neck, and gynecological surgeries. This advancement ensures that a “dip of faith” in advanced medical technology at BMHRC will truly lead to life-saving outcomes.
