85 lakh tonnes of garbage will be removed by October 2 in AP: Minister Narayana

Anantapur, July 18 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana has announced that the government aims to clear over 85 lakh tonnes of garbage by October 2, of which 55 lakh tonnes of garbage has already been removed so far.

The Municipal Administration Minister, flanked by MLA Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad, District Collector Vinod Kumar, unveiled the plaques for various development works including garbage processing unit and the construction of road drainage canals, on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Narayana said that the garbage processing unit being established at legacy dumping yard, located on the Gooty road, costs Rs 12 crore, adding that the road and drainage canals would be constructed at cost of Rs 1.70 crore in Anantapur.

“The Naidu headed coalition government has inherited accumulated garbage of 85 lakh tonnes and the financial irregularities, worth Rs 10 lakh crore from the erstwhile YSRCP regime. However, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu vowed to clear all the 85 lakh tonnes of accumulated garbage by 365 days to make AP ‘Swachh Andhra Pradesh’,” Narayana asserted.

He revealed that several meetings and cleanliness programmes had been held, and many companies had come forward to clear the garbage. He noted that the previous YSRCP government imposed a tax on garbage but did not remove the garbage, He criticised adding that the Naidu headed government had revoked the garbage tax.

In Anantapur district, the Jigma Company had come forward to clear over 6000 tonnes of garbage per day; he said, adding that there are 1.65 lakh tonnes of garbage left in the Anantapur dumping yard.

The Municipal Administration Minister announced that the dumping yard spread on 12.3 acres, would be developed as a beautiful park in the coming days here. “Despite the coalition government having inherited huge debts and a deficit budget, all the promises made to the people are being implemented.

As assured, the flagship scheme, the ‘Talliki Vandanam’ was implemented by spending Rs 10,000 crore,” he highlighted, stating that a free gas cylinders scheme was also implemented.

“The Government is making preparations to implement one more flagship scheme of ‘free bus travel’ to women from August 15′” he announced. Minister Narayana highlighted how the Anna canteens are satiating the hunger of the poor in the state.

He also pledged to provide basic amenities to the people of the state in the coming days.

A drinking water tap would be provided to every household under the Amrit scheme at a cost of Rs 8,500 crore in the state, he mentioned, highlighting that works are underway in Anantapur, Tadipatri, Guntakal, Rayadurg, Gooty and Kalyandurg municipalities to provide drinking water tap connections to every household.

State labour welfare board chairman Venkata Shiva Yadav, AHUDA chairman TC Varun, municipal commissioner Bala Swamy were among those who attended the programme.
