Bhopal: A special program under the “TB Free India” campaign was organized at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Center, Bhopal. The event saw the participation of senior medical professionals and officials, with Bhopal district CMHO, Dr. Manish Sharma, attending as the chief guest.

While addressing the audience, Dr. Manish Sharma highlighted that a 100-day intensive TB-Free India campaign is underway in 347 priority districts across the country under the National TB Eradication Program of the National Health Mission (NHM). Drawing from his 18 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Sharma emphasized the importance of registering TB patients on the Nikshay portal to ensure timely screening and treatment. He noted that patients suffering from diabetes, cancer, and kidney diseases are particularly vulnerable to TB and must be proactively screened. He also urged private practitioners to actively trace and treat TB patients registered on the portal to make the campaign successful.

TB can only be eradicated through collective efforts

Dr. Manisha Srivastava, Director-in-charge of the hospital, reiterated that TB can only be eradicated through collective efforts and active participation in national programs. She emphasized that building body immunity is essential, as TB can affect any part of the body when immunity is low. Early diagnosis and complete treatment are crucial once symptoms appear.

She pointed out that the hospital caters to approximately 3.5 lakh gas victims and their families, and identifying and treating TB patients among them is an important step toward eliminating the disease. According to her, the vision of a TB-free India, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is equally supported by Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

District TB Officer Dr. Pranjal Khare informed the gathering that the World Health Organization has set a target to eliminate TB by 2030, and the Indian government is committed to achieving this goal ahead of schedule.
