Nagpur, July 9 (UNI) Heavy overnight rains continued to pound Vidarbha for third consecutive day today, creating a flood-like situation in the district, inundating houses in low-lying areas and leaving the flood-hit villages in the district inaccessible to other districts in the region.
Due to devastating rains that have been lashing since last night, Nagpur city and its surrounding areas were flooded and also created a flood-like situation in many villages in the district.
Due to heavy rains, the Pohra and the Pivali rivers were overflowing near the city, causing the flood water to enter the settlements along the riverbanks and leaving the villages of Narsala, Besa and Pipla along the ohra river marooned.
More than 50 people who were trapped in the floods, were rescued.
The NDRF teams have safely rescued 21 people trapped in the flood at Narsala village. The rescue operation is going on there.
Fourteen people stranded at Pawangaon village and Navkanyanagar on the banks of the swollen Pivali river in East Nagpur, respectively, were evacuated to safer places.
Many villages in Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia have also lost contact with the flood-hit villages.
Nagpur had received a total of 202.4 mm of rainfall in last 12 hours ended at 8.30 am today morning. Rain has been continuing throughout the day.
A record 284.2 mm of rain was recorded in Umred taluka till morning.
