Bhopal: A routine training session turned tragic at the Army firing range in Bhopal when a dummy bomb accidentally fell on a soldier’s head during a drone bombing drill, leading to his death during treatment.
The deceased, Vijay Singh, hailed from Uttarakhand and was posted as a Constable at the Army Service Office in Bairagarh, Bhopal. According to officials, he was participating in a specialized training session involving the dropping of dummy bombs from drones, when a bomb fell from an estimated height of 400 feet, striking him directly on the head.
Fellow soldiers immediately rushed Vijay to a nearby hospital, but despite urgent medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Initial reports suggest the accident may have been caused by a technical malfunction or human error during the exercise. The incident occurred in the Sukhi Sewaniya police station jurisdiction, and authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the mishap.
Vijay Singh’s untimely death has cast a pall of grief over the unit. Several army personnel gathered at the hospital for his post-mortem, mourning the loss of a dedicated serviceman during what was meant to be a routine training drill.
