Imposter rapes MBBS doctor in Bhopal

  • Fraudster posing as government official arrested after eight months

Bhopal: In a chilling case of deception and sexual assault, Bhopal police have finally apprehended an individual who allegedly raped an MBBS doctor by posing as a high-ranking government official. The accused, identified as Manoj Singh Shriwas (alias Mohit Singh Shekhawat), had allegedly lured the victim with the false promise of securing a medical practice license.

The victim, an MBBS graduate from China, was seeking permission to practice in India when she connected with “Mohit Singh Shekhawat” on Instagram. He falsely claimed to be an officer with the Medical Council of India or the Union Home Ministry, convincing her he could arrange her license for Rs 10,000.

On September 17, 2024, the accused invited the victim to the Meghdoot Hotel in Bhopal. After lunch, he allegedly drugged and raped her, leaving her incapacitated. The traumatized victim later filed a complaint in Dewas, which was transferred to Mangalwara Police Station in Bhopal.

Eight months of meticulous investigation, utilizing mobile call details, led police to identify and locate Manoj Singh Shriwas, a resident of Bhind district. Authorities are now interrogating him and investigating whether he has perpetrated similar frauds or crimes against others. This case serves as a stark warning about the dangers of online impersonation and the vulnerability it creates.
