MGNREGA foundation of prosperity for farmers, workers: CM

  • 32 lakh workers provided employment, Rs. 1500 crore disbursed in wages

Bhopal: CM Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, a nationwide campaign is being carried out to realise the vision of empowerment of the poor, women, farmers, and youth. The Madhya Pradesh government is executing this campaign in mission mode with continuous efforts toward the economic empowerment of weaker sections through various flagship schemes. Among them, the MGNREGA scheme has emerged as a strong foundation for the prosperity of the poor, farmers, and laborers.

CM Dr. Yadav stated that this scheme not only provides local employment to the poor, laborers, and farmers but also helps in enhancing irrigation facilities. Under MGNREGA, works such as construction of farm ponds, Amrit Sarovars, wells, check dams, land leveling, bunding, horticulture, renovation of water bodies, and rainwater harvesting structures are being carried out. So far, 32 lakh people in the state have received employment through MGNREGA.

22 lakh families benefitted

The Central and State governments are implementing MGNREGA, which guarantees 100 days of employment locally to ensure that people in rural and urban areas receive employment at the local level. Since April this year, 32 lakh individuals from 22 lakh families have benefited from the scheme in the state.

Large-scale water infrastructure development

To ensure large-scale rainwater harvesting and generate local employment, the state government is running the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan. As part of this, extensive water infrastructure work is being undertaken. As of June 14, construction is underway for 80,496 farm ponds, 1,01,061 recharge pits, and 1,283 Amrit Sarovars across the state, providing large-scale local employment.

Supporting farming and household needs

The wages earned under MGNREGA are not just a source of employment for workers, farmers, and the poor — they also help meet critical needs such as farming expenses, household requirements, and children’s education. Development works such as construction of farm ponds, Amrit Sarovars, recharge pits, road repairs, and rainwater harvesting under the scheme are strengthening the rural infrastructure.
