Bhopal, Shraddha Paksha started from 29 September. A large number of people are reaching ghats of city’s lakes to offer Jal (water) to the ancestors. Shitaldas’s Bagiya Ghat in front of Kamla Park on Upper Lake, Shitala Mata Ghat behind Fatehgarh Fire Brigade are being visited by people inlarge numbers. People offered tarpan in the presence of pundits at the city’s only south facing Ginauri Ghat, Khatlapura Ghat, Hataikheda Dam Ghat etc. built on Lower Lake.
The family of Markendeya Maharaj has been performing Shraddha as per the rituals for four generations at the south facing Ginnauri Ghat. Acharya told that Pind Daan and Brahmin feast are two processes of general Shraddha. The word ‘Shraddha’ is derived from the word ‘Shraddha’, that is, the special ritual performed with devotion for the purpose of one’s deceased ancestors is known as the word ‘Shraddha’. It is also called Pitriyagya, the description of which is found in many religious scriptures like Manusmriti, Puranas and Veer Mitrodaya etc.
Pandit Vishnu Rajouria told that from September 29, the works like Shraddha, Tarpan and Pind Daan etc. for the ancestors have started, which will continue for 16 days continuously. Prosthapadi Mahalaya Shraddha starts from the full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This time Mahalaya Shraddha started on Friday, 29th September in the witness of Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatra, Vriddhi Yoga, Bavakaran, Moon in Pisces. Shraddha Paksha will last for 16 days. Although in some almanacs, the decay of Chaturthi date has been mentioned, but different mathematics of Tritiya and Chaturthi have been explained in theology, from this point of view, Shraddha must be performed at the appointed time.
