Shimla, Feb 10 (UNI) Shimla police have arrested a 50-year-old Nepali national after recovering 1.811 kilograms of hashish from his possession in the Chopal area of the district, officials said on Saturday.
A case under Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Chopal, Superintendent of Police Garav Singh said. The recovery was made on February 9 during a routine patrolling operation.
The accused has been identified as Chandan Budha, son of Nar Bahadur, a permanent resident of Nepal, who was residing in Village Pujarli, Post Office Bamta, Tehsil Chopal, Shimla district.
“During patrolling, the Chopal police team intercepted a suspect and recovered 1.811 kilograms of hashish from him. The accused was immediately taken into custody as per law,” the SP Shimla said, adding that the district police remains committed to its sustained anti-drug campaign.
His age has been stated as 50 years.
Police said that the accused has been formally arrested and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and possible links with drug trafficking networks.
The SP reiterated that strict action would continue against those involved in drug-related activities and appealed to the public to cooperate with the police by sharing information to help curb the menace of narcotics in the district.
