Four national-level hockey players were killed and three injured when the vehicle overturned before hitting the tree in Hoshangabad’s Reshalpur village on Monday, police said. According to the police, the driver lost control and rammed it into the tree, killing four and injuring three others who were rushed to a nearby private hospital.
According to sources, the players were on their way to take part in the Major Dhyan Chand hockey tournament. They went to Itarsi to celebrate the birthday of one of their teammates. The accident took place when they were returning from Itarsi to play the scheduled match.
The deceased were identified as Shahnawaz Hussain (from Indore), Adarsh Hardua (Itarsi), Ashish Lal (Jabalpur) and Aniket Varun (Gwalior), while the injured were Shan Gladwin (Itarasi), Sahil Choure (Itarsi) and Akshay Awasthi (Gwalior).
MP Chief Minister Kamal Nath extended his condolences over the accident and ordered to provide all help to the victims.
Mr Nath tweeted, “I am deeply saddened due to the Reshalpur village accident in which hockey players were killed. I extend my condolences to the bereaved family.” “I wish speedy recovery for the injured. Instructions have been given to provide proper treatment to the injured and help the affected families in all possible ways.”
Four national-level hockey players died whereas three others were critically injured in an accident early on Monday in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. According to the police, Shehnawaz Khan, Adarsh Hardua, Ashish Lal and Aniket died when their car rammed into a tree near Raisalpur village on the national highway. The players were travelling from Itarsi to Hoshangabad to play in a Dhyanchand hockey tournament.
Chief Minister Kamal Nath also took to Twitter to condole the demise. “The news of the accident of hockey players near Raisalpur village is saddening. I express grief towards the families of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. “We will provide all possible help for the treatment of the injured players,” read a tweet from the official handle of the MP Chief Minister.
Former Olympian and Member of Parliament Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said, “the death of our 4 national hockey players in a car accident in Hoshangabad near Risalpur Village is a tragic loss to their families and the nation. My deepest sympathies are with the families of those who died and prayers to recover soon for those who got injured.”
