4.6-magnitude earthquake jolts Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 2 (UNI) A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Jammu and Kashmir early Monday morning, with its epicentre in Budgam district, triggering brief panic across parts of the Valley.

No immediate reports of casualties or damage were received.

The tremor occurred at 5:35 am at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to preliminary data from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

The epicentre was located at 33.9°N, 74.76°E, officials said.

The quake was felt in Srinagar, Baramulla, Pulwama, Shopian, and surrounding areas, prompting residents to rush out of homes,

The estimated energy released was roughly equivalent to 239 tons of TNT.
