Chennai, Sep 7 (UNI) Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General N. S. Raja Subramani on Saturday said the 21st Century wars have witnessed a significant shift in the goals, rules, players and instruments of war; reshaping its character and multiplying its domains.
Addressing the newly inducted 297 men and women Officer Cadets in to the Army and also 12 Foreign cadets who underwent training at the Passing Out Parade held at India’s premier defence training establishment Officers Training Academy (OTA) here, he said fast paced developments in disruptive technologies and concurrent progressions in instruments of warfare, are making the battle space, more complex, contested and lethal.
“It is in this environment, that you would be leading the men and women under your command”, he said.
“The profession of arms is a sacred one and not just a career, where you have the unique responsibility of leading your men into battle”, he said, adding, it is the most demanding profession and yet it is also the most exciting and fulfilling one.
“As you stand here, ready to embark on this journey that will define your careers and your contributions to our nation, I want to emphasize the importance of four invaluable qualities that should be the hallmark and guiding beacons of your life ahead”, he said.
The Lt Gen said he has given the four invaluable qualities the acronym L-E-A-D : Lifelong Learning, Empathy, Audacity, and Discipline.
