20 killed in road accidents, drowning and fire incidents across Bihar in 24 hours

Patna, March 5 (UNI) At least 20 people lost their lives in separate incidents including road accidents, drowning cases and a fire mishap, reported from different parts of Bihar during the past 24 hours, police officials said on Thursday.

According to police sources, seven deaths were reported from Madhubani district, six from Saran, three from Madhepura and two each from Gopalganj and Supaul districts.

In Madhubani, five people were killed and two others seriously injured when a Scorpio SUV collided head-on with a jeep near Parsa Chowk on National Highway 27A under the Phulparas police station area on Thursday morning.

The occupants of the Scorpio were reportedly travelling from Haryana for a leisure trip.

The deceased were identified as Sanjeev Kumar of Kani Pala village in Kurukshetra district, Vikas and Ankush of Rodi Khedi village, and Ritik and Rajiyan, also residents of Kurukshetra.

The injured have been admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

In another incident under the Benipatti police station area, a youth died on the spot after his motorcycle crashed into a tree near an Indane gas agency between Chanpura and Trimuhan villages.

The deceased was identified as Dukhi Sahni of Gangaur village under Harlakhi police station limits, while another rider sustained serious injuries.

A separate accident near Pauna Mor under Rahika police station claimed the life of Vijay Kumar Rai, son of Jagdish Rai of Arer Chowk, after his motorcycle went out of control and hit an electric pole.

Meanwhile, two youths were critically injured when their motorcycle rammed into a roadside wall near Naulakha Ladout in Benipatti. They were initially taken to a sub-divisional hospital and later referred to Madhubani for advanced treatment.

Reports from Chhapra in Saran district said three persons died in separate road accidents. Vikas Chaudhary (22) died after falling from a speeding motorcycle near a petrol pump in the Bichla Telpa locality under Nagar police station limits. In another case, Avinash Kumar Singh (51) of Gurukul Mehiya village died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle under Mufassil police station area. Raj Kishore Manjhi of Barki Dhawari village under Sahajitpur police station succumbed to injuries sustained in another road mishap.

In the Baniyapur police station area, Sagar Kumar (17) drowned while bathing in a river after venturing into deep water.

In a separate incident, Ram Rasiya Devi (57) of Aloni village under Garkha police station drowned while washing herself in a river.

Pooja Devi (30), wife of Dilip Giri and a resident of Jitwarpur village under Derni police station area, died after being hit by a train near a railway crossing, police said.

In Madhepura district, Dheeraj Kumar (28) died in a road accident on the Udakishunganj–Bhatgama State Highway 58 near Lauaalgan under Chausa police station area on Wednesday evening.

In another tragic incident in Labgharia village of Chausa block, a father and his teenage son were burnt to death after a massive fire, allegedly caused by a short circuit, broke out late Wednesday night.

The victims were identified as Indradev Muni (42) and his son Balram Kumar (15). Balram’s sister, Kiran Kumari (12), sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.

In Supaul district, two youths – Suresh Marik (22) and Mithilesh Marik (24), both residents of Pratapganj police station area – died after their motorcycle hit a roadside railing near Quarter Chowk on National Highway 27 under Lalitgram police station limits. One died on the spot while the other succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.

In Gopalganj district, two teenagers drowned in a pond under Mohammadpur police station area.

The deceased were identified as Akash Kumar (16), son of Pramod Rai, and Gulshan Kumar (17), son of Mansi Rai, both residents of Fatehpur village.

Police have registered cases in all incidents and further investigations are underway.
