- Monsoon in full swing
- Bhadbhada, Bargi gates may be opened soon, gates of 3 other dams opened in state
Bhopal: Heavy rains are continuing in Madhya Pradesh. Floods have occurred in many places. Due to continuous rains, most of the dams in the state are filled. Water has to be drained by opening the gates of four major dams of the state. Due to rain, floods and opening of dam gates, the danger of floods has increased in the low-lying areas of many districts of the state.
In MP, the gates of Kolar Dam in the capital Bhopal, Satpura Dam in Sarani of Betul, Mohanpura Dam in Rajgarh and Sanjay Sarovar Reservoir (Bhimgarh Dam) in Balaghat have been opened. The gates of Bhadbhada Dam in Bhopal and Bargi Dam in Jabalpur are also to be opened soon.
Due to continuous and heavy rains in Bhopal, the water level of Kolar Dam reached 458.70 meters. After this, the officials opened two gates of the dam. Water is being discharged by opening 2 out of 8 gates of the dam by 40 centimeters.
7 gates of Satpura Dam opened
7 gates of Satpura Dam in Sarani of Betul district have also been opened. The dam has a total of 14 gates, half of which have been opened. 7 gates of Satpura dam have been opened up to a total of 4 feet.
Problems have increased in Rajgarh due to continuous rain. The Mohanpura dam here also got filled with water, after which water is being released by opening 4 gates.
On Saturday at 2 pm, three gates of Bhimgarh dam were also opened. 20 thousand cubic feet of water is being released from these gates per second. Earlier it was decided to open the gates at 6 pm on Saturday, but the water in the dam increased rapidly, due to which the gates were opened in the afternoon itself. This caused a tremendous increase in the water level of the Vanganga river. The low lying areas of more than two hundred villages situated on the banks of Vanganga are facing the threat of floods.
Heavy showers drench Bhopal
Heavy rainfall continues to drench Bhopal and most other districts in Madhya Pradesh as active monsoon systems persist. The relentless showers, which began earlier this week, show no signs of abating, bringing much-needed relief to the region while also causing disruptions.
According to the Meteorological Department, the city and surrounding areas can expect the rainfall to continue for at least the next 2-3 days. The consistent downpour is attributed to the vigorous monsoon activity currently sweeping across the state. These weather conditions are expected to bring further moisture and heavy showers.
Bargi dam close to FTL
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in Jabalpur district has significantly raised the water levels in the Bargi Dam, leading to a likely opening of its gates on Monday. Residents in low-lying areas have been alerted to maintain a safe distance from the banks of the Narmada River as a precautionary measure.
Covering an extensive catchment area of 14,556 square kilometers, the Bargi Dam has seen a notable increase in water levels due to a substantial rainfall of 2 inches over the past 48 hours. As of Saturday, the water level in the dam has reached 417.65 meters.
The dam’s gates are scheduled to open once the water level hits full tank level (FTL) of 418 meters. Given that the dam’s full capacity is 422.76 meters, the current situation suggests that the gates will need to be opened soon to manage the inflow and ensure safety.
