- Celebrating creativity and culture at WALMI
Bhopal: A vibrant two-day state-level art festival, organized by the School Education Department, kicked off with spectacular energy at WALMI today, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of Madhya Pradesh. The event, which fulfills the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, brings together over 250 students from nine divisions for a grand celebration of India’s living arts and traditions.
A Fusion of Folk and Fine Arts
The campus was alive with competitions spanning 12 categories. The highlight of the first day was a mesmerizing series of folk dances, including the vigorous Badhaai Dance of Bundelkhand, the rhythmic Baredi Dance from Jabalpur, and the vibrant Bhagoria Dance of the Bhil tribe, offering a dazzling reflection of the state’s heritage.
Students also excelled in classical arts, presenting polished performances of Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and Odissi. Meanwhile, the visual arts section demanded creativity, with participants painting the theme “Developed India @ 2047” and crafting sculptures from Lalpur clay, reviving ancient folk crafts and toy-making.
Additional Project Director Manisha Setia emphasized that the festival is a vital platform connecting students with the arts and values of India. Winners of this state-level event, which concludes tomorrow, will go on to represent Madhya Pradesh at the National Art Festival in Pune starting November 15.
