- Players in the state won 53 medals in national competitions
Bhopal: To provide high level sports facilities to the students studying in government schools in the state, the School Education Department has established 110 nodal sports centres in government schools of every district. Through these centres, high level sports material and sports training facilities are being provided to the students along with sports infrastructure. This arrangement has significantly improved the sports performance of the students in government schools. Along with this, the participation of students in school sports competitions organised at various levels has also increased. About 200 players from various nodal centres participated in the state level school sports competition and won 80 medals in various sports.
National School Sports Competition
Players of the state participated in various disciplines in the National School Sports Competition. Last year, in the 67th National School Sports Competition, players of Madhya Pradesh won a total of 53 medals including 26 gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze medals in 7 sports in the age group of 14, 17 and 19 years. To encourage students who perform well in sports in schools, a residential sports institute is being run in Sehore from class 9th to 12th. There are 200 seats in this residential institute. Students here are getting training in the sports of their interest along with studying in school for 4 years. The students of this residential institute have performed well in various sports competitions.
Activities in Fit India Movement
Under the Fit India Movement, the School Education Department organised the ‘Fitness Ka Dose-Aadha Ghanta Roz’ (Dose of Fitness-Half Hour Daily) programme in government schools. Under this, students, teachers and parents also participated enthusiastically in various sports activities. Under the Fit India Movement, the 5th ‘Fit India Week’ was celebrated in all the districts last year.
