10 Lakh outsourced workers in MP struggle for fair wages and benefits

  • Worker Union demands immediate action on Labor Day

Bhopal – Nearly 10 lakh outsourced workers form the backbone of Madhya Pradesh’s government departments and public undertakings, yet they remain significantly behind in receiving fair wages and benefits compared to their counterparts in the Central Government and other states. On the occasion of Labor Day, the All Department Outsource Joint Sangharsh Morcha raised serious concerns over the disparity.

Provincial Convenor Manoj Bhargava and General Secretary Dinesh Sisodia submitted a demand letter to the Chief Minister and Labor Minister, urging the state to align MP’s policies with the facilities and minimum wages being implemented nationally and in progressive states.

Bhargava emphasized the need to increase sanctioned posts and end long-term dependency on outsourcing—particularly in critical sectors like healthcare and energy. Drawing a parallel with Tamil Nadu, which has begun replacing outsourcing with direct recruitment for core roles, he called on MP to adopt a similar approach.

He also highlighted a major grievance: despite a 2020 Gazette Notification increasing the bonus for outsourced workers from 8.33% to 20%, workers are still receiving only 8.33%, citing delays in implementing the 2019–2020 Labor Codes. “This is a grave injustice to lakhs of workers who continue to serve without adequate compensation,” Bhargava said.

The union also demanded the implementation of Page 81 of the Assembly Election Manifesto, which promises contractual status and enhanced benefits to outsourced workers.
