1 Million artillery shells delivered to Ukraine in 2025: Czech PM

Prague, Aug 14 (UNI) Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that 1 million large-caliber artillery shells were delivered to Ukraine in 2025 as part of the ammunition initiative.

“I can also announce that, as of today, through the Czech Ammunition Initiative, we have already delivered one million rounds of large-calibre ammunition to Ukraine this year,” Fiala said on X .

In February 2024, the Czech Republic launched an initiative to procure ammunition outside the European Union for Ukraine.

Prague is acting as an intermediary, while a number of Western European countries are financing the initiative. Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said that a total of 18 countries are participating in the initiative. The Czech Defense Ministry said later that 1.5 million shells were transferred to Kiev in 2024 as part of the initiative.

Russia has repeatedly said that Western arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the peace process and make NATO countries a party to the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would be a legitimate military target.

Four European countries have agreed to buy USD1 billion worth of US weapons and send them to Ukraine under a new arrangement announced by President Trump.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed thanks for the assistance on social media.

“We already have commitments from the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark – over one billion dollars for American weapons that Ukraine will receive. Thank you! This cooperation with NATO countries will continue,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
