Women’s protection is state govt’s first priority: Chouhan

Instruction to ensure safe environment for women

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that a secure environment should be created in the state so that women can move about freely everywhere, anytime. He said that distorted mentality towards women is a social evil.

Society, government and police should make combined efforts towards this evil. A public awareness campaign should be launched to put an end to the evil.

This instruction was given by CM Chouhan today during review of efforts being made to curb crime against women. Chief Secretary B.P. Singh and Director General of Police R. K. Shukla were also present on the occasion.

Crime against women to be reviewed by high-level panel 

Chouhan said that women’s protection is supreme. Every Monday, arrangement must be made to review crime against women by a high-level committee. A one-stop centre should be established in every district. All essential steps must be taken after careful thought on the schemes and strategy related to women’s security.

Safe transport arrangement must be made for women. GPS and camera must be installed in public transport vehicles. An effective strategy is needed for use of Dial 100 services besides patrolling at sensitive points where women move around more.

CCTV cameras should be installed in nearby areas besides proper lighting arrangement should be ensured so that women in particular and public in general feel more confident.

Chouhan stressed on the need to hold discussions with experts and prepare work plan and work with sensitivity to tackle people with distorted mentality. Initiative should be taken to give information to children about good and bad touch.

The Chief Minister told to collect information about the drivers ad conductors of vehicle used for transporting women and children and stressed on making the in charge of girls and women’s hostels, orphanages, remand homes etc. more sensitive towards women and their honour.

He said that information related to women’s security system should be publicized at different places through flex, pamphlets etc. Police should establish live contact with the people residing near girls schools and hostels and win their confidence. Police must display their commitment towards women welfare and their security.

CM to have dialogue with women

The Chief Minister said that he too would have a dialogue with women to create a feeling of security among them. He said he would talk to district collectors, superintendents of police and district level officials of the women and child development department through video conference.

He said that police, medical and other departments should ensure deal more sensitively towards victims. He told to ensure proper research and process of prosecution of the unfortunate incident that occurred recently.

The Chief Minister said that the police must set an example of effective action in such unfortunate incidents and give a positive message. Social and electronic media must be used to publicize provisions related to harassment of women. Publicize women assistance apps and helpline also.

Mishra, Additional Director General of Police Intelligence Rajiv Tandon and Women Crime Smt. Aruna Mohan Rao, Commissioner Public Relations Anupam Rajan, Commissioner Urban Development and Environment Vivek Agrawal, Commissioner Women and Child Development Smt. Jaishree Kiyawat, OSD to CM Adarsh Katiyar, Home Secretary Vivek Sharma, Inspector General of Police Jaideep Prasad and Inspector General of Police S.K. Singh.

Liquor shops near girls’ schools, hostels to shut

The Chief Minister said that information about liquor shops around girls’ schools, hostels, religious sites and place with more of women public so that the process to close them down can be taken as per rules. Public awareness campaign should be launched against alcoholism.

He said that good elements abound in the society. There is need to connect them and to alert the society. Efforts must be made to apply societal pressure on people with distorted mentality through social get-togethers. Administration and police must mark women leadership in the district and establish live and direct contact with them.
