Hitting on BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi indirectly, Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi today said that he would not like to ‘blow trumpet(Bhopu)’instead of serving thepeople and announced that he is ready to become Prime Minister if elected MPs choose him for the post.
“ My father asked me that you should only serve the people and work for them. I don’t want to become a ‘Bhopu’ like others,” he said without taking any names.
Addressing a press conference here after a gap of around 10 years, Mr Gandhi said,” I will only accept the post of PM when Congress MPs would elect me as their leader after the elections.”
Hitting out on the dynasty politics, he said,” a family decides the fate of the politicians in Samajwadi Party while in Bahujan Samaj Party it is done by a single person.”
“ The BJP too is not cooperating with us to deal with corruption as six important Bills are pending in parliament due to their uncooperative attitude,” he alleged.
Commenting on the Aam Admi Party(AAP) and its leader Kumar Viswas challenging him, Mr Gandhi said,” such people come and go but they do not create any impact in the society.”
“ Yesterday when I was coming to Gauriganj around 8 youths wearing white caps told me that they could be donning the caps but they are with me and have supported my vision,” he claimed.
The Congress vice-president said that in next 8 to 10 years the vision of Congress would be clear by the steps initiative by him at present. Mr Gandhi said Congress has its own Constitution to follow and besides there are several senior leaders like P Chidambaram, Digvijay Singh and Sonia Gandhi for the post.
“We are a democratic party and follow our own Constitution so the decision of the PM would be decided as the time comes by the elected MPs,” he added.
Talking about his plan to decentralise the political system of the country, Mr Gandhi said,” I want that people should directly elect the Lok Sabha members and there should not be any interference of the political parties.” The Congress vice-president alleged that most of the political parties are against him due to his plan to decentralise the political system.” But I am confident that in next one decade it would be achieved,” he added.
“My father brought Panchayati Raj in the country, we have also introduced the break-through in the country by bringing RTI and other public oriented schemes. But it is unfortunate that it could be the negative point for the Congress before the people,”he added. In his around 45 minutes interaction with the media, first time after 2004, Mr Gandhi said that his party was confident to come back in Uttar Pradesh and form the government in near future.
