New Delhi, Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday said all Wi-Fi choupals in the country will become knowledge centers.
Wi-Fi Choupal aims to connect 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats in the country through highly scalable network infrastructure.
Supporting Mr Prasad’s conviction , Telecom secretary Ms. Aruna Sundararajan said the infrastructure created under Wi-Fi Choupal will be a national asset, accessible on a non-discriminatory basis to the service providers. CSC will also be used for first line maintenance of BharatNet in the country.
Speaking at a conference organized by CSC SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) here Mr Prasad said now no villager will have to go to cities for the services, as the same can be availed through CSCs (Common Service Centres).
Announcing a host of services to be offered by the CSCs, Mr Prasad said CSC centres will now be able to work as IRCTC agents as CSC SPV has entered into an agreement with IRCTC for delivery of services through CSC centres. They would also be able to book general tickets, he added.
This apart, IndusInd Bank is supporting CSC SPV for the digital literacy of 3 lakh candidates through CSR fund, Mr Prasad said.On the occasion, CSC SPV showcased the impact and progress made by the Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) in promoting rural Wi-Fi network infrastructure.
Mr Prasad announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address CSV VLE’s on June15.Sharing the dais with Mr Prasad, Minister of Finance, Railways & Coal Piyush Goyal announced that now, 2.90 lakh CSCs will be able to work as Business Correspondents (BCs). He expressed the hope that the expansion of Digital Technology in the country will add 5 per cent more growth in the GDP.
