Bhopal, The Madhya Pradesh Assembly witnessed a walkout on Thursday by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, which accused the Congress dispensation of procrastination vis-a-vis implementing reservation for the economically-underprivileged segment within the General Category.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced that a committee would be constituted for examining the matter. Leader of the Opposition Gopal Bhargava raised the issue again on Thursday during the Zero Hour and averred, “No committee was formed in states that have already brought such reservation into force.”
He urged Speaker Narmada Prasad Prajapati that the Government apply such reservation prior to the general election. Owing to commotion over the subject, proceedings were adjourned for five minutes. After that interval, Dr Narottam Mishra (opposition Bharatiya Janata Party) alleged that the regime desired to postpone the concern.
“The Congress manifesto enshrines an assurance in this regard and that shall be fulfilled. Other states have made mere announcements. The dispensation does not wish to make an announcement but wants to look into the matter minutely and that is precisely why time is being sought,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Govind Singh said.
Dissatisfied with the Minister’s reply, the Opposition staged a walkout.
“The Government desires to implement such reservation with the Opposition’s concurrence,” Dr Singh stated.
