Voter is valuable and important link of strong democracy. This was stated by Governor Shri Ram Naresh Yadav at state-level National Voters’ Day function here today. Success of democracy and free & fair polls depends on election of honest, dedicated and devoted representatives by voters.

Besides, electoral rolls should also be error-free and updated. Earlier, Governor Shri Yadav inaugurated the function by lighting a lamp. Shri Yadav distributed Voter I-cards to new voters having turned up 18.

Member of Parliament Shri Kailash Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary Shri M.M. Upadhyay, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Shri V.L. Kantarao, former State Election Commissioner Shri G.S. Shukla, Commissioner Bhopal division Shri S.B. Singh, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Shri S.S. Bansal, Collector Bhopal Shri Nishant Warwade, Padmshri Prahlad Singh Tipaniya, other dignitaries, concerning departments’ officers and students were present on the occasion.

Governor Shri Yadav said that it is a matter or pride that we are alert voters of world’s largest democracy. Successful Vidhan Sabha elections in our state prove that state’s voters are aware and enlightened.

He said that National Voters’ Day is being held to create awareness among voters about their rights and duties. It is vital for success of democratic system that every citizen is always and completely aware. We should make efforts that every eligible voter’s name is included in revised electoral rolls and the work to delete every ineligible voter from electoral rolls is done within prescribed time-limit.

Additional Chief Secretary Shri M.M. Upadhyay said that fundamental spirit of National Voters’ Day is establishment of a strong democracy. He asked officers and employees associated with elections to get remaining voters’ names in electoral rolls. He urged voters to remain aware and come forward to get their names included.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Shri V.L. Kantarao urged citizens to get their names registered in electoral rolls positively. He said that it is necessary for healthy democracy that we take part in electoral process.

Governor Shri Yadav honoured Returning Officers, BLOs, Collector Chhindwara Shri M.C. Choudhary, Collector Shahdol Shri Ashok Kumar Bhargava, Collector Shajapur Shri Pramod Gupta, Collector Mandsaur Shri Shashank Mishra, CEOs of Indore, Hoshangabad and Betual and senior police officers for excellent performance during Vidhan Sabha elections. Governor Shri Yadav also felicitated winners of school level competitions regarding voter awareness.
