Bhopal Posted On Monday, July 13, 2009 | Chronicle News Service Bhopal, July 13: The opposition Congress in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today shouted slogans and staged a walkout over the issue of illegal poaching of tigers and decline in the population of the big cat. Opposition members had brought posters, with pictures of tigers, along which they wore as a jacket. Below the picture of tigers in the poster, was written 'Save Me'. Speakers Ishwardas Rohani expressed displeasure over the behaviour of the Opposition members. He expunged all comments made by Congress members in the meantime. Raising the matter through call attention notice, Congress Legislator Party's Deputy Leader Choudhary Rakesh Singh and senior members Govind Singh and Ajay said not a single tiger was left in Panna Tiger reserve and that the government had failed to curb illegal poaching of wildlife animals. Forest Minister Rajendra Shukl said the number of tigers had fallen in Panna despite all efforts. However, he said, the Union Forest Minister has praised tiger conservation efforts by the state government. He described Kanha Bandhavgarh and Pench tiger reserves as better from the viewpoint of management. Dr Govind Singh (Cong) wanted to know about the kind of weapons that had been provided to forest guards and steps taken to face the challenge before security of forests and wild animals due to pressure of increasing population. The Forest Minister said 1,500 modern weapons had been provided to forest guards. Sensitive areas had been identified. He said 821 villages were located within national parks in the state. Of them, residents of 67 villages had been re-located. Mr Shukl said an amount of Rs 3,300 crore has been demanded from the Centre for rehabilitation of residents of rest villages as every family would have to be provided at least Rs 10 lakh compensation.
