News Flash Posted On Saturday, July 04, 2009 | Agencies Bhopal, July 4: Expressing concern over disinterestedness in voting shown by electorate in recent years, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar today said behaviour of people's representatives was indirectly responsible for this. ''We must introspect that why electorates are showing disinterestedness in coming to polling centre even once in five years,'' Ms Kumar said, while inaugurating a two-day training programme for newly-elected members of the 13th Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. ''It's not necessary to go far to gauge the reason behind apathy of people towards voting,''' she said, indicating that people's viewpoint towards politics would change when people's representatives would fulfill their duty with full honesty. Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Ishwardas Rohani, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Leader of Opposition in state assembly Jamuna Devi, Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Harvansh Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya and Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj were present. Ms Kumar pointed out that a few elected people's representatives had illusion that it was necessary to disrupt proceedings of the House in order to raise a particular issue effectively. She said this tendency was not appropriate and this belief was far from truth. Commenting about increased public expectations from people's representatives and their busy schedule, Ms Kumar said MLAs should still take out time for studying. The Lok Sabha Speaker cautioned people's representatives to remain alert from people with vested interests trying to affect them for their selfish motives. Elected representatives should only be concerned about resolving problems of last man in society. The two-day training programme will apprise 106 newly-elected legislators in the 230-member state assembly with parliamentary procedures and conventions. Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Karia Munda will address the programme tomorrow afternoon.
