Court directive to jailer

Mumbai, July 30:
The designated TADA court today directed the jailer of Taloja prison and JJ Hospital authorities to file replies within a week regarding treatment of underworld don Abu Salem and also asked the police officer, who was escorting him from Taloja Jail, to submit a reply on handcuffing him within a month.
The directive was given on an application moved on behalf of Salem before the TADA court Judge ST Mahajan here, stating that he was threatened by Assistant Police Inspector Rajkumar Chaudhary, on way to JJ Hospital after he complained of handcuffing.
Judge Mahajan asked the jailer of Taloja prison whether Salem could have been treated there or not. The court has also asked the hospital authorities as to why treatment was not provided to Salem. Both the parties have to submit the reply within a week.
The court has also directed API Chaudhary to submit a reply in regard to handcuffing Salem within a month.
Fortytwo-year-old Salem, a key accused in the 1993 bomb blasts case, was allegedly attacked by Mustaffa Dossa, an associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in the Arthur road jail after a heated argument. He sustained injuries on his neck and face.
Meanwhile, Dossa, has also moved an application in the court stating that he is a heart patient and he has been shifted to Thane jail, where there no proper facility for treatment. He may be shifted to Arthur Road jail again, it was submitted on his behalf.
Judge Mahajan has adjourned the hearing on the petition till August 23.
