Pay special attention to improve infrastructure, encourage sports and sportsmen: Puar

Sports, Youth Welfare & Tourism Development Minister Shri Tukojirao Puar said that along with encouraging sports and sportspersons special attention is being paid for improvement in infrastructure. The state government has provided enough funds in the budget for sports. The budget for sports department has been increased 15 fold, from Rs. 4 crore to Rs 60 crore. Shri Puar was addressing the advisory committee meeting of sports and youth welfare department here today. MLAs and members of the committee Shri Ajay Yadav, Smt. Umadevi Khatik, and Shri Yashpal Singh Sisodia, Secretary (Sports) Dr. V. S. Niranjan, Director Sports, Shri Sanjay Choudhary, deputy secretary Shri G. G. Gillore, and joint director (sports) Dr. Vinod Pradhan and officers of other departments were present.
Shri Puar said that Madhya Pradesh has become one of the leading sports states of the country. He said that the progress in sports and improvement in infrastructure has become inspiration for other states to follow. He said that during the last few years the state has leaped in the field of sports. Shri Puar said that the efforts by the department to push the state to the position of number one in sports have started showing results. He said that the historical performance of the sports persons of the state in different competitions has given new energy to our efforts.
Committee member and MLA Smt. Umadevi Khatik suggested to construction of auditorium at Hata College, construction of sports grounds in Gram Panchayats according to population, and appointment of sports teachers in higher secondary schools. Another member and MLA Shri Ajay Yadav suggested to spending the money for infrastructure development at one place instead of several places in each district. He said that with this the whole district will be benefited. Shri Yashpal Singh Sisodia said that the role of sports officers should be made more effective. The sports teachers should be appointed only in big villages.
Secretary (Sports) Dr. V. S. Niranjan gave information in detail about the departmental activities. He said that the department has progressed unprecedented during the last three years. He assured the committee members that meeting of the committee will be held regularly.
Sports Director Shri Sanjay Choudhary said that special attention has been paid on sports infrastructure development. At the same time high quality sports competitions have been encouraged. He said that 1400 sports trainers have been appointed in district headquarters. Sports persons of the state have won 50 international medals and 800 national-level medals during the last few years. Referring to the Panchayat Youth Sports and Games Campaign he said that with a view to construct sports grounds in each Gram Panchayat, in the first phase, 31 Janpad Panchayats and 2304 Gram Panchayats have been selected.
