Provide soyabean mixed nutritious food to children: CS

Maximum Soyabean based food items will be included in the nutritious food given to children for better health. Soyabean-based food items will now be given to children, pregnant women, women after child birth and adolescent girls as nutritious food items.
Chief Secretary Shri Avnish Vaish at a meeting held at the Mantralaya today stressed the need to include more and more Soyabean-based items in the nutritious food items being distributed as supplementary food to meet the problem of malnutrition in the state. It may be mentioned here that Madhya Pradesh is leading in production of Soyabean and Soyabean contains plenty of protein which is good enough to remove malnutrition from the children.
At present the state government is distributing high quality protein and high- caloried food items to 58 lakh children up to 6 years of age, 12 lakh pregnant and women after child birth, and 1.5 lakh adolescent girls. The Woman and Child Development Department gets this nutritious food items manufactured by the MP Agro Industries Development Corporation and are being distributed through Anganwadis all over the state. These nutritious food items include wheat soyaburfi, aatta besin laddu, halwa, khichri etc. 600 to 750 gms take home packets are given to children of age group of 6 months to 3 years, pregnant women, women after child birth, and adolescent girls through Anganwadis. These packets are distributed on weekly basis. To the children above 3 years, cooked food is given at Anganwadi centres. The packed food samples from every lot are regularly sent by the Woman and Child Development Department to the National Food and Nutrition Board, New Delhi for checking. Only after getting positive results of the checking, the food packets are sent to the Anganwadis for distribution to the beneficiaries.
The Chief Secretary has asked to get technical information from the Food and Nutrition Institute, Hyderabad, Soyabean Processors Association (SOPA) and other research institutes about Soyabean-based food preparations. On this occasion Agriculture Production Commissioner Smt. Abha Asthana, Additional Chief Secretary (Commerce & Industry) Shri Satyaprakash, Principal secretary (Agriculture & Farmer Welfare) Shri M M Upadhyaya, Secretary (Horticulture and Food Processing) Shri Anil Shrivastava, Managing Director M P Agro Industries Development Corporation , Deputy Secretary Woman and Child Development Department Smt. Kamini Ratan Chouhan and Director Woman and Child Development Shri Anupam Rajan also participated in the discussion at the meeting.
