Kalmadi destroying Indian sports: Pargat Singh

United News of India
New Delhi, July 26:
The upcoming Hockey India elections are shaping up to a ''Pargat Singh vs IOA'' contest with the former national team captain slamming Suresh Kalmadi for trying to destroy Indian sports.
''Hockey India is being indirectly run by Kalmadi who is pulling the strings from outside. He wants to hijack the elections for his personal gains.
''He (Kalmadi) is like a leech who is destroying Indian hockey.
He is a destroyer, who is bent on wrecking the nationalgame.
Not just hockey, Kalmadi is destroying all sports in India,'' Pargat asserted.
''I may be contesting against (present HI president) Vidya Stokes, but in reality, it is actually a contest between me and the IOA.
''Kalmadi wants Stokes to win the elections at all costs,'' he told mediapersons here today.
The former Olympian is contesting the president's post at the Hockey India elections, which are slated to be held on July 28.
He is pitted against present incumbent Vidya Stokes whose faction is backed by Kalmadi.
Lamenting the widespread mismanagement prevalent in the national game, the former left-back rued the fact that sponsors are scared away by the negative public image presented by the quarrels and bickering between the various factions.
''If you do not present a positive image, how will you promote hockey? ''If the game is promoted properly, then money will not be a problem any more. But nothing is being done to promote hockey,'' Pargat said.
''We are going on creating one division after another. The entire hockey establishment is divided against each other,'' he added.
Comparing the present situation as similar to a Bollywood blockbuster, Pargat, the general secretary of Hockey Punjab, warned Kalmadi and the Hockey India officials that the present state of affairs will not last for too long.
''Hockey India is working on the instructions of Kalmadi at present. This is like a hindi film where Hockey India and Kalmadi are like the villains. Like a villain, Kalmadi wants to run hockey according to his whims and fancies.
''But ultimately, every film must come to an end. Just like the villain in a film must meet his punishment, Kalmadi will also have to meet a similar fate,'' he stated.
