United News of India Bangalore, July 26: Southwest monsoon which has turned active over Karnataka continued to bring widespread rainfall in several districts of the state, while many rivers barring Cauvery received heavy inflows. However situation was under control and no loss of life was reported during the last three days. Farming community was a happy lot as agricultural work was had picked up pace after the sowing operations had witnessed a tardy start due to a lull in monsoon for over two weeks early this month. Officials in agriculture department said as on July 19, sowing was complete in 39.35 lakh acres against normal of 45.98 lakh acres. The total targeted area for sowing was at 74.8 lakh hectares in the state this year. Officials said heavy rains lashed across the districts of Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, Belgaum and Chikmagalur, while it remained widespread in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Dharwad and Chitradurga during the last 24 hours. Heavy inflows were reported in Tunga, Bhadra, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha rivers while Kodagu district, which is the catchment area of Cauvery, was yet to witness intensified rainfall this season.
