Rail progress in State

Category »  Editorial Posted On Monday, July 26, 2010
Railway activities have picked up in the parliamentary constituency of Congress MP from Khandwa and Union minister for industries and public sector Arun Yadav. The work of conversion of metre gauge into broad gauge of Ratlam-Indore-Mhow-Khandwa-Akola section is picking up pace. The railway board has sanctioned Rs 603 crore for work on Ratlam-Mhow section. The whole expenditure on this section is estimated at Rs 1421 crore and 25 lakhs. This work is expected to be completed by 2012 for which the survey work is over and the construction work has picked up momentum. The total length of this section is 472.64 km, the announcement of which was made by the Union Railway Minister, Mamata Banerjee.
However, the achievement made by Member of parliament, and MOS for heavy industries and public sector, Yadav is a boon not only for western MP but for the entire state. A new railway line is being laid in entire Nimar region and parts of Malwa which did not have railway facility so far. This region is noted for its cotton production. Khandwa in this area is a major railway junction and district headquarter. With the new railway line, another three district headquarters would be connected with the railroad. This rail route would stretch up to Khandwa-Khargone-Barwani and Dhar with an entire length of 261 kms. The survey work of this proposed railway line which would incur a cost of Rs 1981.3 crore is going on  full-fledge and the survey report would be submitted to the Railway Board within next two months by September end.
