| Category »
Madhya Pradesh Posted On Wednesday, March 17, 2010 | Chronicle News Service Shivpuri, Mar 17: With the objective of doing away with long queues of labourers at post offices and banks for getting salaries under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), the district authorities are introducing Biometric machines on the lines of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). ''Biometric machines are being installed for the first time in Shivpuri. Job cards will be prepared by taking thumb impressions and recording voices of beneficiaries,'' Project Officer Surendra Avdharyu said. The machine will display thumb impression and provide information about voice of a worker on inserting a job card. This will be matched with the thumb impression and voice of user for delivering cash. The Biometric machine system will be first introduced in Budha Donar and Enevara villages and replicated at other places in about three months. One biometric machine each will be installed for a group of 5.5 panchayats. There are a total of 615 panchayats in this district. The facility will provide ATM-like facility for labourers in the region.
