Nation Posted On Monday, March 15, 2010 | Agencies Lucknow, Mar 15: The capital of Uttar Pradesh has been painted blue Monday with Bahujan Samaj Party symbols dominating the skyline as Chief Minister Mayawati prepares to hold a massive rally to mark 25-years of the foundation of BSP, which coincides with the birth anniversary of founder Kanshi Ram. The state administration has made elaborate arrangements for today’s rally, which is expected to draw nearly a million BSP supporters. According to reports, the 12-km route from Hazratganj, the heart of the city, to the rally venue at Ramabai Ambedkar grounds had been draped in blue. Be it the decorative lights, the welcome arches, banners and hoardings, and even the lights around fountains at major road junctions, everything has been painted in blue. The Rs.1,200 crore Ambedkar Memorial has been profusely illuminated, while all advertisement hoardings all along the thoroughfare to the venue seemed to have been taken over by the BSP. Mayawati's portrait has been emblazoned on the freshly painted hoardings and announcements about today’s rally were being made everywhere since yesterday. Dozens of traffic islands along the route were covered under a net of tiny blue lights that were also draped around all important state buildings across the city. As many as ten thousand police personnel will be on duty on the day, and two special trains have been dedicated to bringing workers to and fro from Lucknow. In order to meet any eventuality, the state government has put in place a 30-bed hospital with 200 doctors and 500 paramedics on standby. Also, lodging and dining arrangements are in place for 10 lakh people. There will be 14 CCTVs at the rally ground. For decorating the important venues and the main ground, at least 1000 quintal of flowers have been brought in from various parts of the country including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Uttaranchal, Bangalore and Kolkata. And apart from 1600 state buses and 5000 private buses, 10 lakh LED lights will be used to dress the city in blue, the BSP's colour. However, as the ruling party gears up for its biggest ever rally, the Opposition has claimed that over Rs 200 crore are being spent to mark BSP’s silver jubilee foundation.
