Your Voice Posted On Sunday, March 14, 2010 | Pranab Mukherjee said 'no' to roll back because the Government's financial condition does not permit it. Quite emphatically so. But, why then the need and haste for VIP-carrying Helos? Just 12 of them will equal half the cost of the aircraft carrier Gorshkov ie INS Vikramaditya - a name derived from a former Samrat but, importantly, that ship is a national need of the hour for a potentially powerful democratic, socialist and secular country. Nehru's words are worth recalling: "To be secure on land, you have to be supreme at sea". The acquisition has been hanging for a decade whereas the decision on Helos was taken just in weeks!
