Bhopal Posted On Saturday, March 13, 2010 | By Our Staff Reporter Bhopal, Mar 13: Arrangements should be ensured that labourers get payments promptly. This view was expressed by Minister for Panchayats & Rural Development and Social Justice Gopal Bhargava at the state level coordination committee of Swarna Jayanti Swarozgar Yojana with Central Bank's officers here today. Principal Secretary Panchayats & Rural Development R Parshuram and Central Bank's general manager Oberoi were present on the occasion. Minister for Panchayats & Rural Development Bhargava said that payment to labourers and beneficiaries of social security pension is a sensitive and humanitarian task. Therefore, such arrangements should be ensured under which labourers get prompt payment against their work. He said that schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Swarna Jayanti Self-Employment Scheme and schemes pertaining to economic assistance to old and handicapped persons aim at giving succour to most vulnerable sections of society. The objective of such schemes comes to a naught if economic assistance is not provided timely. Bhargava said that he has given clear-cut instructions that payments to labourers working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme should be made within three days. He said that we have made arrangements of such payment through banks to ensure that labourers get their wages timely. It is the banks' responsibility to adopt such a process through which the last person in the last row of the society can get timely payment. The Panchayat & Rural Development Minister gave clearance to the State Bank of India's proposal that SBI should be provided places in Panchayat Bhawans to install solar energy-run biometric ATM at every Panchayat. Banks' representatives and senior officers of Panchayat and Rural Development Department were present at the meeting.
